Adventure Games Best Played at Night

Some games are made for the bus. Others ask for a dark room and headphones, and adventure games sit firmly in the second group.

Hollow Lantern is my recent favorite. It's a slow, atmospheric mystery with no combat and no rush. You explore, you examine, you piece a story together, and the mood holds all the way through.

These games rarely top download charts because they don't nag you to return. But they leave a stronger impression than most. A good three-hour story beats a hundred hours of grind.

If you've only been playing fast, loud games, try one of these on a quiet evening. It's a different kind of satisfying.
